Jesuit Education in Timor Leste

The Society of Jesus has administered Colégio de São José at the request of the Bishop of Dili since 1993. However, CSJ is and continues to be a school of the Diocese of Dili.  Direction of CSJ will revert to the Dili Diocese at the end of 2011, but our work in education in Timor Leste will continue.

Fr Mark Raper SJ has issued a statement in Timor Leste regarding the Society’s position on Jesuit education in the country.

Forming Jesuits for Asia Pacific

The Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific has released a detailed document on formation for Jesuits for this part of the world.

Entitled “Forming a Contemplative in Action: A Profile of a Formed Jesuit for Asia Pacific”, the document addresses three major questions – What does a formed Jesuit look like?  What specific issues does initial formation need to address? What competencies a formed Jesuit for Asia Pacific needs to have mastered?

As Ignatius Would

Ignatius Loyola’s gift to the Church was about choice: how to make the best decision in our lives. In the celebrations for Ignatius Loyola the readings speak of choice and of the mission that follows the choice.  Ignatius invites us to say ‘no’ to the self that is focused on itself: the surface self, the small, fearful, insecure self.  By contrast the Gospel reveals the sacred, unique, individual self, the person created and sustained in life by God, loved as a son and daughter, whom Jesus wants to be saved.

Asia Pacific Provincials meet in Singapore

The meeting, from 23 to 28 January, brought together 12 Provincials from 13 provinces or regions of Asia Pacific, and as usual reviewed both the ‘frontier’ mission challenges as well as some normal business.Three newly appointed provincials, Frs Yoshio Kajiyama (JPN), Colin Tan Chin Hock (MAS) and Liem Thanh Pham (VIE), were welcomed in the assembly, and Fr Sumita Shogo (JPN) was farewelled. Fr Mark Raper took up responsibility as major superior of the Myanmar Mission on 24 January.

Ecology and Jesuits in Communication

We are pleased to invite you to subscribe to Ecology and Jesuits in Communication, an e-newsletter of Jesuits and friends, as we respond to the global invitation (GC35 Decree 3) to understand the universal importance of engaging in ecological concerns and the need for reconciliation with creation.

Report on the Social Mapping Project

In early 2009, the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific initiated a social mapping project which aimed to take stock of the social concerns in which Jesuits and their collaborators were currently engaged and to explore possibilities for international co-operation.  Information gathering and analysis were carried out and completed by mid-2010.  A “Report of the Social Mapping Project” has been produced.

JCAP Extended Consult Report

Building a Conference team was the reason for gathering the apostolate coordinators together with the JCAP consultors and the JCAP core team for the annual “enlarged consult” in Manila last October.  20 participants examined the commitments each sector will make to Conference wide projects and priorities.  The group was not at risk of starving during these days, thanks to the care of Anne Noche of the Conference office.
